Her achievements as a young performer in America (which we call Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy category. For a child of Irish origin, and surrounded by gifted parents and a loving family, they had innate talents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin - Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and participated in rough, competitive games when she was young. Her passion was coupled with an unnatural talent for performing. She took home almost every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance the country could offer. When she was fourteen, she was accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
